Spring is in the air, and the euphoria can have us all in a state of anticipation of brighter days, warmer weather and holidays. Let us not, however, let current affairs, such as the General Election and fuel tax hikes distract us from the all-important issue of keeping our domains, control panels and websites secure from misuse. You business and projects do, after all, rely heavily on them.
Website software updates (for Joomla CMS Clients)
As you may be aware, many of you have had (or are having) your website built on a Content Management System called Joomla. Occasionally, Joomla updates are released and it is strongly recommended that these updates are applied in order to maintain the security of your website. Failure to do so can result in a number of problems, including website failure and malicious attacks
Please bear in mind that this does not apply to every Eight28 client website, and as such we are carrying out free 'Joomla Health Checks'. Please contact us urgently, particularly if your site was built more than three months ago, if you wish to have these free, no-obligation checks carried out.
Live support
Our live support service is up and running. It has been tried and tested, and it now enables you to chat online with a member of our team. Simply go to our homepage at www.eight28.com and look for the 'online' status beside the 'live support' link at the top of the page.
Increased login security
As part of our new client security measures, we will be updating all control panel and client area
passwords to a stronger format. This will involve use of at least one of each of the following characters: uppercase letter, lowercase letter, numerical digit. You will be notified via the email address you have registered with us, so please ensure that we have your correct email address.
Security question for telephone calls
Over a period of time we will be introducing a security clearance procedure for any clients needing support via telephone. In order to implement this service, all clients will need to access their client area and make the necessary settings using these steps:
- Log into your client area at www.eight28.com
- Click on 'My Details' in the main menu

- Another menu appears under the main menu
- Click on 'Change Security Question'
- Use the following pull-down menu to select your security question
- Choose your security question and answer; ensure you remember it
- Click on 'Save Changes'
Contact information
Please ensure that you log into your control panel and keep your registered email address up to date. If you no longer use the email address you have registered with us you will be unable to use the password recovery service. This will cause interruption to your control panel and client area access.
Contact via email
When sending in a support request, please use your registered email address or your query will not be handled with the same level of urgency by the system. When you use your registered email, our system will automatically verify you as a client and send your query through to the appropriate department. As such, it is important that you keep your registered contact details up to date.
