Working with the Shopping Cart Component

Products/Services can be added or removed from your website either temporarily or permanently. Products/Services are listed under specific categories. When viewing the shopping cart from the front-end of the website, the categories are the first features which are shown. Once a category is selected, the products for that specific category are listed. So when creating new products, you must decide what category they are required to fall under or if a new category is required to be created. 

Adding a new category

  • Log in through the back-end of the website.
  • Point your mouse to Components in the tab menu and then select VirtueMart
  • Select Product Categories
  • Select the New icon, enter the necessary details in the form
  • Scroll down the form and select if the category should be top-level or a sub-category to an existing category.
  • To add an image, select the images tab (next to the category information tab)
  • Browse for the image and select it – do this for both the full image section and the thumb-nail section.
  • Click the Save & Close icon at the top.

Adding or Edting a Product item

  • Log in through the back-end of the website.
  • Point your mouse to Components in the tab menu and then select VirtueMart
  • Select Products
  • To find an existing item, use the search box at the top of the page
  • Click on the item you wish to edit and make your changes.  Once done, click the Save & Close icon at the top.
  • To add a new product, select the New icon, enter the necessary details in the form
  • Please note that there are a number of tabs which can be opened (Product Information/ Product Description/ Product status/ Product Dimensions and Weight/ Product Images/ Custom Fields). Edit these as appropriate.
  • Edit the content as required and then save the changes by clicking the Save & Close icon at the top.

Publish or unpublish an item

  • To unpublish a product from the website, go to the list of products and then click on the green 'tick' icon in the column that states Published.  It will change to a red circle, signifying that publishing is not active.
  • To re-publish, simply click on the red circle in the Published column and ensure it has changed to a green 'tick' icon.
